Happy Birthday to me! Yes, I am celebrating my birthday soon. Tomorrow, in fact. And I am here to share with you some basic yet important home management tips. From bedroom to kitchen, I have some adulting tips that are practical for all. Follow these tips easily with affordable home appliances that you can buy at a discount during the Deerma sale.
These past 2 years, I have practically lived inside our home. Medical appointments aside, I have not been out. So I feel like I am knowledgable enough to share these tips. Indulge me.
Organize by Assigning Zones
This is probably the hardest for me to accomplish. I used to do almost everything in my bed. My bed table was where I worked on. I also watched movies and series on my bed and played games. And sometimes, I ate on my bed. This was counterproductive since it did not give me clear boundaries.
I bought an extra desk and made it my work zone. It is set up with my main laptop. This has also helped my posture, to be honest. Because I no longer work while sort of lying down.
My camera tripod and ringlight are near. So shooting would be in the same area. When I have more time, I plan to make this set up even better with a separate desk or zone for filming.
I have another desk for my second laptop which I primarily use for entertainment purposes. Also on this desk is the speaker that I use for listening music to.
Now, my bed is strictly for sleeping and for resting. No more working on my bed.
Cleaning by Zone
It has also made cleaning up easier since I also do it by zones. I try to clean each zone at least once a week. My work area is often sanitized and wiped clean. And I vacuum it at least once a week. Each zone is vacuumed at least once a week.
One thing that really helped improve my life is owning my own vacuum cleaner.
For a time, I used this almost daily. I loved how handy and easy it is to use. When I was younger, vacuuming the house was such a big chore that us kids had to be somewhere else. And it always took such a long time. So vacuuming really intimidated me.
But with the Deerma Handheld Vacuum, it was easy. This cleaner is easy to use and lightweight. Plus, it has a long power cord that it is easy to clean up each zone in my room, without having to reposition the vacuum or change where it is plugged in. More importantly, it is easy to clean and small enough to be stored under one of my desks.
So now I can easily access it and use to clean up a zone. Or the entire room whenever I want to.

Small Changes are a Big Deal
Keeping things in their proper zone has made me more productive. And also has helped me in knowing where things are. Organizing has always overwhelmed me because I am a hoarder and have too much stuff. But I started with just one thing, just one zone. And I realized that doing things bit by bit, little by little has led up to big changes.
I started by adding just one desk. And I realized that it helped me a lot. Not just on getting more productive. But also with making my bed a more peaceful rest space. And this has motivated me to work on other areas in my room.
And yes, I have also been decluttering. Bit by bit. I have destashed and given away a lot already. And even threw out a lot that already had to be thrown out. But I have more to go.
To do: Organize my clothes and dressing up zone. And my beauty zone for my skincare and makeup. Possibly, a workout zone.
My room is not huge. It is just the right size. I think with proper organization and a few upgrades, I believe I can make it even better.
Keep Your Rest Area Serene
I have only realized this the past few months. And I should have realized it sooner. I now strictly keep my bed my rest area. And I take extra care in making sure it is serene and restful.
I change sheets and pillowcases more often. Make sure my pillows are fluffed often. Keep my humidifier nearby. And have my led lamp within reach, as well.
One of my water tumblers is also nearby. Hydrate often, of course. But I do not eat on my bed anymore. Well, sometimes I still snack while on my bed. But I try to avoid doing so.
And yes, I often vacuum my bed, as well. Especially when I violate my own rule and eat snacks on my bed. Hehe!
More importantly, I make sure it is properly sanitized and free of dust mites. I am asthmatic and allergic to a lot of things. When we first had ECQ, a dust mite cleaner was one of the first things I purchased. Yes, even before I got a vacuum cleaner. And it did wonders to lessen my asthma and allergy attacks.

Schedule Everything
As a freelancer who uhmmm has no schedule for almost everything, this has been a challenge. With the community quarantine and being indoors for almost 2 years, I could say I have been productive. But I could have done better. But this is not about that.
This is about home management. So when I say schedule everything, I mean, make sure your home management tasks are scheduled properly. And evenly spaced out that it does not overwhelm you.
For example, I have designated Sundays are my day to change the sheets, blankets, and pillow cases. It is also my day to switch towels. I take out the laundry on Wednesdays. Cooking my prepared meals are usually done on Mondays.
Bulk Buy
I have mentioned this on social media several times. I take advantage of sale events to bulk buy toiletries, cleaning products, and other essentials.
These are things that I use daily and need to buy. Instead of buying monthly, I take advantage of sale events and buy my supplies in bulk. My shampoo supply, for example, was bought in bulk last year and I still have one huge bottle that I use to this day. This is economical because I save money on stuff I need to buy no matter what.
This is also a great way to minimize plastics and non-recyclables. For some cleaning materials, I buy refills, rather than those packaged in bottles.
To make sure I do not get overwhelmed with large purchases, I schedule purchases, as well. I bulk buy shampoo during one sale event. And bulk buy toothpaste the next month. Etcetera.
This also lessens the stuff that I have to budget money for and think about every month.
Prepare Your Own Food
I guess this is something a lot of people realized during the pandemic. It is not that challenging to prepare your own food. It is economical and more healthy. Plus, if done properly, the quality is better than store-bought food.
And you do not need to be a professional to be good at it. Just a lot of practice and willingness to try.
While I have attended culinary school, most of the things I do in the kitchen are from what I learned on my own. School did help, yes, but it is not the only place to learn from.
The important thing really is taking time to plan out and prepare. Plan your menu. Purchase fresh and good quality ingredients. Schedule your kitchen time. Make sure you have dedicated time for it. And focus on the task at hand.
Prepare in Bulk
What I like to do is prepare dishes or meal components in huge quantities. For example, I cook quinoa and portion it. So anytime I want to eat it or add it to my salad or any other dish, I have some already cooked. It makes preparing other dishes easier. I also cook kimchi quantities good for several meals. I use it for kimchi rice, soups and stews, stir fry, and even salads.
Other easy dishes you can cook in large quantities are ground meat in tomato sauce, chicken in puttanesca sauce, or pasta sauce. You can even prepare hotcake from scratch. Cook a lot. Freeze some portions. And just defrost and reheat when you want to eat it. I have a few recipes on my food blog. Let me know if you want to request a recipe.
When you prepare food in large quantities, you save on time for preparing and cleaning up. I haaate cleaning up after cooking. So preparing large quantities reduces clean up time. Because you prepare several meals in just on go. So the next time, you just enjoy the food. Sans the tedious preparation and clean up.
Kitchen Essentials
A question I often get asked is what do you need to buy for a functioning kitchen. So here are some of my essentials.
A good knife set and chopping boards are a must. One chef’s knife and one paring knife are enough. Make sure you have a separate chopping board for meats and another for fruits and veggies. Kitchen scissors are also a good thing to have.
Have a good size frying pan. For newbies, I would recommend a nonstick pan. Makes everything easier. Even cleanup. And have a good wooden spoon or silicon cooking implements.
Finally, have a good sized pot. You can cook almost anything with just one frying pan and one medium-sized pot.
Or make your kitchen life easier with the Deerma Multicooker. This has been on my cart for months now.
A multicooker is every kitchen newbie’s friend. Make sure the size is right for your needs. Also check if the size is right for your available storage space.
This Deerma Multifunction Cooker has a 2L capacity. This is the right size for cooking instant ramyeon. But also big enough for preparing several portions of quinoa or cooked kimchi.
It can function as a frying pan, a stew pot, and even as a steamer. It has 3 heat or firepower settings. So you may also use it not just for cooking, but also to reheat or to keep food hot.
This is on sale for only P1458. SRP is P3199. Get it HERE.
